Project Case Study – Savills Investment Management-33 Margaret St
Architectural FX has enjoyed working with Susan Lake on many striking projects. Savills’ Head Office in Margaret Street, London is one of those. The client, Savills Investment Management, wanted to create a more informal ambiance in their workspace. The brief involved a departure from the more traditional design approach.

The key to this was creating a living wall. This offers a unique connection to nature. The integration of UV growing lights allows the plants to thrive and grow.
Lighting is skillfully used to highlight areas of interest on the wall. It draws the eye to this structure as a central feature in the space. Susan Lake Lighting Design (SLLD) wanted to create a more relaxed ambiance through layers of light; Susan commented; ‘We were able to turn the limited daylight to our advantage by creating a controlled environment that offers staff and visitors alike a warm, calming atmosphere. This was achieved using decorative lighting, balanced with architectural lighting, to produce layers of light at low, mid, and high levels.’
SSLD has succeeded in creating an elegantly lit workplace. With its natural backdrop and versatile concealed lighting, the workplace transforms into a welcoming destination.

Architectural FX supplied linear fixtures for integration into furniture, ceilings and acoustic panels. These included various versions of Integrate and Neon ranges. Concealed linear lighting is installed at the back of the banquettes to uplight the walls and highlight the warmth of the timber wall panels. Linear fixtures were also integrated into ceiling panels to accentuate the ceiling and surrounding space.
In the collaboration space, SSLD made use of the exposed black ceiling services. They suspended black acoustic fabric pendants, with integrated linear lights. This created the effect of a black void punctuated by dropped petal shaped pendants.
The overall effect is one of luxury and relaxation. One in which people are comfortable to both work and socialise
