- What attracted you to the lighting profession?
Originally, I didn’t intend to get involved in the light industry. I started to work at Architectural FX as they needed extra help with packaging and I ended up getting a full-time role working as a warehouse operative.
Not only do I enjoy the job and the people I work with, but I have also developed an appreciation for lighting and the impact it has. My job involves quality checking the products before they are sent out. This gives me an insight into the behind-the-scenes process and final product.
- How did you become involved with Architectural FX?
During Covid, the company was short-staffed. My mum works for the company so I started helping with part-time shifts. This led to the offer of full-time employment.
- For you, what is the most exciting aspect of working in lighting?
I’ve always enjoyed creating specific moods and effects through lighting in my own home. The lighting can have a big impact on a space and your emotions. It’s exciting to be involved in the process of creating these effects.
- What for you is the most frustrating aspect of working in the lighting industry?
How quickly project timelines and deadlines can change. I’m a very organised person and take time to plan my schedule; this can cause everything to change suddenly.
- Is there a person who has had a big influence on you in business and influenced your success?
My parents because they taught me from a young age how important a good work ethic is. They have continued to provide me with support and guidance.
6. Could you list the top 5 reasons why you love your job?
- The people I work with. There is a good vibe throughout the company.
- I enjoy it being a physical and active job, so I don’t sit behind a desk.
- Seeing the new products and learning more about lighting.
- I work on my own but also get the opportunity to work with the production team
- I have new skills and knowledge that have helped me develop personally and professionally. Before this job, I wasn’t confident with technology. Now I have developed a range of skills with power supplies, drivers, computers, software etc.
- Could you sum up in a one sentence ‘#mylightingpassion’
You will find lighting anywhere you go. From the laser beam show lights at a concert or the LED fixtures throughout my home, providing a cosy atmosphere. Lighting has the endless ability to create different environments, including LED UV lights in my lizard’s cage!
- Can you tell us something about yourself that not many people know?
In the last 4 years I have dyed my hair 15 different colour combinations. My favourite was black on top with red underneath….
